常用見面用語你都造嗎？.

　　導(dǎo)讀：看了這么多年美劇，開口用英語打招呼，你是不是還是只會“How are you?”那你的美劇就白看了!今天的主題是常用見面用語。

　　先來看一段美劇《絕望的主婦》中的片段熱熱身：

　　背景簡介：神父 Sykes 來看Bree經(jīng)營的流浪漢餐廳如何。【B=Bree S= Sykes】

　　B: Reverend Sykes. What a nice surprise!

　　賽克斯神父，這真是個驚喜!

　　S: That's quite a crowd out front. I practically had to fight my way in.

　　門口人真多。我?guī)缀跏鞘箘艛D進來的。

　　B: Well, ever since I took over the kitchen, we've been jam-packed. Thank you so much for suggesting I get involved. I have never felt more needed or important in my whole life.

　　自從我接手廚房，我們這里變得非常擁擠。謝謝你讓我參與到這件事里來。我一生都沒有這么被需要過。

　　S: The intention of charity is not to make us feel important.

　　慈善的目的不是要讓我們感到自己很重要。

　　B: Of course not. It's to help people. Feeling important is just a bonus. So what brings you by?

　　當(dāng)然不是。慈善是為了幫助他人，感覺自己重要不過是個福利。什么風(fēng)把您吹來了?

　　S: I was hoping you could tell me where a homeless person could get a hot meal.

　　我希望你能告訴我流浪漢們哪里能吃到一頓熱飯。

　　B: Well, right here. Of course.

　　當(dāng)然是這里了。

　　S: No, Bree. Ever since you've turned this soup kitchen into a bisque kitchen, the homeless don't feel comfortable here.

　　不，布里。自從你把清湯廚房變成濃湯廚房之后，流浪漢覺得待這里不舒服。

　　B: why? I was just trying to make this place special.

　　為什么?我只是想讓這地方特別些。

　　S: It was already special. It was home for them, until you took that away.

　　這地方本來就很特別。這里本來是他們的家，直到被你奪走。

　　在這個片段中，Bree 是在什么情況下用到 “What brings you by?” 的呢?起初見到賽克斯神父，他說的是“What a nice surprise!”見到您可真是個驚喜呀! 語氣中帶有奉承之意，因為是神父介紹他到這個慈善活動中來的，所以他要表現(xiàn)出自己的熱情和感激。但當(dāng)神父否定了他的“做慈善是為了讓自己感到重要”的觀點之后，他多少感到尷尬，心里對神父的態(tài)度也開始發(fā)生轉(zhuǎn)變，于是用“是什么風(fēng)把您吹來的?”這樣的話來為自己打圓場，同時打探神父來此的真實目的。這樣是不是更清楚地理解了這個短語的使用語境?

　　根據(jù)2002年由麥格勞希爾出版的《美國英語習(xí)語與動詞短語詞典》的表述：

　　What brings you here/by? 其實就是在問：What is your reason for being here? (A polite request for this information. More polite than "Why are you here?")

　　再來看兩個例子：

　　Tom: Hello, Mary. What brings you here?

　　Mary: I was invited, just like you.

　　Doctor: Well, John, what brings you here?

　　John: I've had this cough for nearly a month, and I think it needs looking into.

　　除了“what brings you here?”這個表達，我們還可以從美劇中發(fā)掘更多的地道打招呼的方式：

　　1. How was your day? 你今天過得怎么樣?

　　2. How are you doing? 你最近好嗎?

　　3. How's everything going? 一切還好嗎?

　　4. It's a beautiful day! 今天天氣真不錯!

　　5. What's up? 還好嗎?

　　6. Anything new? 有新消息嗎?

　　7. Same as ever. 一如既往。

　　8. Everything seems to be all right. 一切看起來都挺好。
