　　The United Nation (UN) held an entrance exam in Beijing on Wednesday. The exam is part of an initiative to recruit young professionals into the international organization.

　　本周三，聯(lián)合國(guó)在北京舉行了一場(chǎng)招聘考試。這場(chǎng)考試是招募年輕專(zhuān)業(yè)人士到進(jìn)入國(guó)際組織計(jì)劃的一部分。

　　To work at the UN, one has to pass the language test and has the ability of adaptation to multicultural environment, and familiarity for the operation rules of the UN, explains Zhang Dan, vice-president of the U.N. Association of China(UNAC).

　　據(jù)聯(lián)合國(guó)中國(guó)協(xié)會(huì)副主席張丹(音)表示說(shuō)，要想到聯(lián)合國(guó)工作，你必須通過(guò)語(yǔ)言測(cè)試、具備適應(yīng)多元文化環(huán)境的能力、并且熟悉聯(lián)合國(guó)的運(yùn)作規(guī)則。

　　About 5,000 candidates will sit the exam, including the UN staff. Each year as many as 50,000 people apply for the exam, says the Central Committee organizing the examination. Candidates from around 60 countries took the exam, with at most 40 places for each country in a department.

　　此次共有5000名考生參加了這一測(cè)試，其中還包括聯(lián)合國(guó)的工作人員。據(jù)組織考試的中央委員會(huì)表示說(shuō)，每年都有多達(dá)50000人申請(qǐng)參加考試。來(lái)自全球60國(guó)家的考生會(huì)參加這一考試，每個(gè)國(guó)家一個(gè)部門(mén)內(nèi)最多有40個(gè)名額。

　　In China, highly competitive examinations are no strangers to the thousands of the hopuls taking the exam. This exam falls within months of both the Chinese National Civil Service Examination and the Beijing Civil Service Examination. This year the UN recruits for economic affairs and information and telecommunication technology, reported thepaper.cn.

　　在中國(guó)，高競(jìng)爭(zhēng)性的考試對(duì)那成千上萬(wàn)有希望參加這一考試的人們來(lái)說(shuō)并不陌生。這場(chǎng)考試距中國(guó)國(guó)家公務(wù)員考試和北京公務(wù)員考試結(jié)束不到一個(gè)月。據(jù)澎湃新聞報(bào)道，今年聯(lián)合國(guó)招募的是經(jīng)濟(jì)事務(wù)、以及信息和通信技術(shù)方面的人才。

　　"I work in a bank, it’s been hard for me to finish the exam though I’ve prepared for them according to the rerence books," says an applicant from south China’s Guangdong Province.

　　據(jù)廣東一名考生表示說(shuō)：“我在一家銀行工作，盡管我已經(jīng)根據(jù)參考書(shū)做好了準(zhǔn)備，但是對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)完成考試仍然很困難。”

　　The written exam takes four and a half hours and evaluates language and knowledge ability. The first part tests the applicants’ substantive knowledge, analytical thinking and drafting abilities and must be written in either English or French. The second part must be written in any of the six official UN languages (Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian).

　　筆試時(shí)間為4個(gè)半小時(shí)，測(cè)試的是考生的語(yǔ)言和知識(shí)能力。第一部分考驗(yàn)的是考生的基本知識(shí)、分析思維和寫(xiě)作能力，考試必須用英語(yǔ)或者法語(yǔ)來(lái)作答。第二部分則必須用6種聯(lián)合國(guó)正式語(yǔ)言(漢語(yǔ)、英語(yǔ)、法語(yǔ)、西班牙語(yǔ)、阿拉伯語(yǔ)和俄羅斯語(yǔ))來(lái)作答。

　　A Beijing applicant said they had to answer questions about two treaties relating to cross-border crime and corruption, and the Nash theorem. There were 50 choice and 11 subjective questions.

　　據(jù)一名北京考生表示說(shuō)，他們必須回答兩份有關(guān)跨境犯罪和貪污腐敗的條約、以及納什定理。共有50個(gè)選擇題和11個(gè)主觀題。

　　The exam is only the first part of the recruitment process, passing it means an interview including a competency-based evaluation, bore the final recruitment can commence.

　　For those who might not make it into the programme, an internship is a possible and easier option.

　　The UN secretariat has 41,000 members of staff. The Chinese account for 461 and work mostly as translators or general service providers. Only around 70 of them engage in direct management and decision making, according to theUNAC.
